Chandler Hovey Park

The 3.74 acre Chandler Hovey Park, located at the end of Follett Street on Marblehead Neck, overlooks the mouth of the harbor and the shorelines of Beverly and Manchester-By-The-Sea. A great post ahead.

It is a popular picnic area, dog walking area (pets must be curbed and leashed), and observation destination for locals and tourists alike. It offers pavilions, benches, picnic tables, restrooms, swimming, and parking.

Park Information

Located at the end of Follett Street, off Ocean Avenue on Marblehead Neck, Chandler Hovey Park, also known as Lighthouse Point, is a 3.74-acre park that overlooks the mouth of the harbor and the shorelines of Beverly and Manchester-by-the-Sea.

The park also features a historic final resting place, Old Burial Hill. Established in 1638, this picturesque burial site is one of the oldest and most scenic in New England.

A great place to watch the sunset, the view from this park is simply spectacular!

It is home to a unique cast iron lighthouse that is the only one of its kind standing in New England.

The heritage landscape of harbors in Marblehead is a critical feature of the town’s history and character. To preserve the waterfront and enhance public access to it, partnerships must be formed among Historical and Historic District Commissions and Harbor and Water Boards to identify key heritage landscape features of the harbor and develop plans for managing the growth of recreational use.

Parking

Marblehead is a beautiful town with lots of fun things to do. Whether you want to walk through the lighthouse and check out the interesting skeletal structure, or simply sit down and enjoy the views from the park, there’s something for everyone here!

The only pyramidal skeletal lighthouse in New England, the Marblehead Lighthouse is located at Chandler Hovey Park and is an easy stop for anyone visiting the area. The park is also a great place to bring a picnic and enjoy the stunning view of the sea and the town of Marblehead.

Another must-see is Fort Sewall, a historic site where Glover’s Regiment reenacts military battles in the 18th century. The fort is located on a granite cliff overlooking Marblehead Harbor and Salem Bay, making it an especially scenic venue.

If you’re planning to visit during the summer months, then Devereux Beach is the ideal spot for swimming and sunbathing. The 5.48-acre beach has shelters, picnic tables, restrooms, and a restaurant. It’s a popular spot for day-trippers. A great place to also visit is The Witch House at Salem MA.

This 33.7-acre park, first established in 1895 as part of a town-owned farm, is now known for its lighted tennis courts and baseball diamond. It also features summer street hockey, winter sledding, and exercise trails.

Another of Marblehead’s historic gems, Chandler Hovey Park is also home to the 105-foot tall Marblehead Light Tower. It has a unique skeleton construction and is the only square-skeletal light tower in the state of Massachusetts.

This park is a favorite among locals and tourists for its picnic areas, dog walking area, and observation destination. Its causeway access, Devereux Beach, and craggy cliffs make it an ideal place to relax and enjoy the spectacular view of the inner harbor, Abbot Hall and Old Town.

Swimming

Chandler Hovey Park is a great place to enjoy the beauty of Marblehead Harbor. The park offers a swimming pool, picnic areas, and plenty of space to walk around.

One of the best things about this park is that it is surrounded by a very unique lighthouse! This is the only one of its kind in New England.

This 105-foot tall cast iron skeletal lighthouse is one of the most unusual and fascinating sights you will see in New England. It can be seen from the parking lot, but to get an even closer look you should take a hike on the trails that lead to the enormous wave-beaten rock outcroppings.

There is also a small pond here that is a favorite spot for fishing. The area is popular for outdoor weddings as well. It is also a great place to watch the boats come and go in the harbor. Next article.
